The lake of Petit Saut is an artificial lake which flooded the jungle over 350 km². The trees near the barrage have been lumber jacked, but it was impossible to clear all its surface. So, to navigate on the lake, you must follow the former bed of the Sinamari river in order to avoid the dangerous trunks hidden under the surface of the water. All the flooded trees are dead now, but life still remains on them. There are a lots of ants, termites, spiders which live in an autarkical on the branches, and lots of epiphytes like on this picture. H.

I loike the image!!! The background of stormy sky and lush woods make a beautiful contrast with the despoiled trunks! The image has a poignant quality, though! Gabriela
